HairitED was created from a simple belief: learning should help children see the beauty in who they are.

Our story

As an educator with more than a decade of classroom experience, Guerlandy Honore saw a gap that was too big to ignore. Her students lit up when they saw themselves represented in stories and lessons. At the same time, she noticed how few tools existed to teach young children about their natural hair in ways that built both literacy and confidence.

HairitED bridges that gap. It combines early literacy with hair education to create culturally responsive learning materials that affirm identity and boost confidence. Through games, flashcards, and interactive activities, HairitED helps children connect words and concepts to their own lived experiences, making reading personal, joyful, and empowering.

What started as one teacher’s vision for inclusion has become a movement for representation in learning. HairitED is helping families, educators, and communities nurture self-awareness and self-love one story, one word, and one hairstyle at a time.

lasting work.

When children are represented in the learning tools they engage with, they not only learn - they thrive.

Founder & CEO

Meet the Founder

Hello, I’m Guerlandy, the Founder and CEO of HairitED.

With over a decade of dedicated experience in educational settings, I've had the privilege of serving as both an Assistant and a Lead Teacher. My professional journey has taken me through K0, K1, and K2 Inclusion Classrooms, as well as Center-Based Sub-Separate Classrooms. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Moderate Disabilities.

Throughout my classroom experience, I identified a significant gap in accessible literacy resources for students of color. I also saw how many children struggled with self-confidence regarding their natural hair. As a passionate advocate for hair education and a devoted educator, I recognized an opportunity to bridge these two critical areas.

At HairitED, our mission is to foster confidence in young learners by creating educational resources that resonate with their lived experiences. We believe that integrating hair education into early learning can empower children to embrace their identities and strengthen their literacy skills at the same time.
